More driver assistance features are now standard, including previously optional technologies such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and automatic high beams.
Buick gave us a sneak peek at the 2022 Enclave in January but officially withdrew this table on Wednesday to reveal the scope of its updated styles and detail some of its functional content updates, including a new set of standard security technologies. We can now better understand the various appearance adjustments, including larger and more visible grilles, new headlights and taillights, and more angled front and rear bumpers.
Avenir’s external processing has also been updated to incorporate new elements. These changes are not overly dramatic, but Buick has done enough to make 2022 a visual difference from previous years. More driver assistance features are now standard, including previously optional technologies such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and automatic high beams. To help with parking, Enclave now also comes standard with rear parking sensors and rear cross traffic alerts.
Adaptive cruise control is still optional. To stay up-to-date, Enclave standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now work wirelessly. Other changes are minor. Enclave retains its 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.
The Enclave’s updated styling and functional enhancements have increased its appeal as a three-row family crossover, but its Avenir livery still can’t provide enough luxury or beauty to outperform BMW and Mercedes-Benz SUV products. However, its high-end intentions and value-oriented pricing give it a good foundation to challenge rival crossovers like the Cadillac XT6 and Infiniti QX60. The new standard safety kit for the Buick is Driver Confidence plus Kit.
It includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Front Collision Warning, Rear Parking Assist, Rear Intersection Warning, and Automatic High Beams. Buick’s midsize crossover is still powered by the standard 310-horsepower V6 engine, with optional all-wheel drive. The best Avenir models include adaptive suspension and unique styling elements.
Despite our previous expectations, except for the standard safety features listed above, the Enclave’s cabin has not really been upgraded. Buick did not include pricing information in its announcement Wednesday, so you can expect another update before the 2022 Enclave goes on sale later this year.
