The error code P0113 is considered a severe error code if your vehicle is diagnosed with this error code. Your vehicle can face problems while driving if it is not attended at the time. The error code P0113 indicates that the vehicle’s computer is getting a high reference voltage signal from IAT sensors. This code generates when there is a problem between IAT circuits and PCM. This error code occurs when the PCM receives more than 5 volts from the PCM.

Diagnosed error code generic P0113 indicates that the engine control module has sensed that the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor low input voltage.


What does this error code mean?

The thermistor’s resistance fluctuates with the temperature. As the temperature increases resistance decrease, while high signal voltage is generated when the temperature tends to low.
The powertrain control module sends a reference 5 bolt current to your IAT sensor to check the air intake temperature. The temperature rise creates a drop of resistance in the thermistor, while we can get high resistance readings in cooler temperatures.

The degree of resistance in the thermistor is because the temperature will decide the voltage of the feedback that the PCM gets. The thermistor will have some resistance if the temperature of air leaks is normal, and the feedback voltage will be lower than 5 volts.
The condition of low resistance occurs when the feedback voltage is 5 volts, which means that air intake is too hot and the error code P0113 is generated.

  • Corroded or defective IAT
  • Backfiring in the intake manifold

The wiring connections of PCM and IAT may lose or gets corroded. You need to inspect the wiring conditions of the physical circuit between the IAT and the PCM.


Check the resistance


Measure the resistance of the IAT at room temperature after removing it from the vehicle. Apply heat to the IAT using the hairdryer to check whether the resistance remains the same or decreases. If you do not notice any change in the resistance of the IAT sensor, it indicates that there are some faults in the IAT sensor.

The primary reason for the P0113 error code is a failed IAT sensor or maybe a failed circuit. This error can be fixed by repairing or replacing the problematic components of the vehicle. Cleaning the corroded tip of the IAT sensor also helps in fixing the P0113 error code.
