Ford is recalling selected examples of its 2021 F-series super trucks that can accidentally fall over. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s election announcement selected two rear-wheel models of the F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 super heavy trucks, and their front wheel hub extensions as they were installed incorrectly.

Vendor-related restraint issues can cause wheels and wheel extensions to fall off the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of accidents. According to Ford, on some 2021 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks equipped with dual rear wheels, the front wheel hub extender may not be properly tightened by the supplier, which can cause the wheel and tire assembly to separates from the front wheel axle. Ford stated that if tires and wheel assemblies fall off while driving a truck, this situation can increase the risk of collision and cause road hazards.

The recall affects 19,626 trucks in North America. Ford will start this week to notify the owners of affected Super Duty trucks to recall. The owners of affected Super Duty trucks are warned by Ford not to drive their vehicles until it can be verified that the hub extension nut front wheel has been tightened to the Ford dealership. The dealer completes the repair, or tows the truck to the Ford dealer, or follows the instructions provided in the recall notice. The automaker stated that it is not aware of any accident or injury reports related to the recall. As of 12:56 pm, 4,444 Ford shares were trading at $14.94 by Monday, US Eastern Time, 34 cents or 2.19%.
